Clinical Services Manager at Ndimoyo Palliative Care Clinic in Salima, Linly Chitete Chimbayo, has urged women in the district to prioritize cancer screening, describing it as essential for maintaining good health.
Chimbayo made the remarks on Friday during a cancer screening exercise conducted at the clinic, where several women accessed the service.
She said the facility carries out routine cancer screening to ensure early detection and to provide appropriate medical guidance for patients at risk of developing cancer and the clinic has registered 10 cancer cases since the beginning of the year, a development that has prompted intensified sensitization programmes to raise awareness among women.
Chimbayo expressed concern over the continued use of traditional methods in managing suspected cancer symptoms, warning that such practices may contribute to the rapid spread of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
One of the beneficiaries, Emily Kangwe said the exercise helped her to understand the importance of screening and encouraged fellow women to seek the service.
